College Prep: Start in Middle School!

Article published in Longmeadow Neighbors
(September 2024)

For many, twelve years of formal schooling culminates in trips to the mailbox to find out which colleges one will attend in the fall.  However, without hard work, determination, financial planning and knowing a few tricks of the trade, all of that work could be for not.

At Infinity Ed, "Education Designed for Success," we have helped nearly 1,000 students further their academic abilities - and we want to help your student achieve their college dreams.  Below are some tips so you’ll be on the way to college success!

Tips for Middle School & 9th Grade Students

  • Get Financially Fit - College is expensive!  Open a bank account specifically for college, or talk to a financial professional about a 529 fund.

  • Get Good Grades - It might not be as important as it is in High School, but good grades mean better study habits, better classes and a better prepared High School student in training.  Also, good grades can be the start of scholarships, grants and AP classes.

  • Extra Curricular Planning - Colleges can be picky these days and it’s about more than getting great grades.  Think about your skill set, or brainstorm some new hobbies or passions you like - it might be the key to an acceptance letter - or just a new hobby!

  • Make a High School plan - Do you know where you’ll be going?  What classes do you have to take now to take what you want in school? What clubs do they offer? The more you know, the easier it will be to make High School an ideal academic and cultural experience.

  • Take a Tour - Are you nervous about new experiences?  Entering High School can be a social shift, so the more you know, the better prepared you’ll be.  Get to know the campus, your teachers and the vibe - it will give you less to worry about when you’re supposed to be studying!
